EXPERIENCE:

My fitness career started in 1990 (giving me almost 20 years experience to date)

My first job in leisure was as a lifeguard at the Wales Empire Pool, Cardiff in September 1990. There I qualified fully as a Swimming Instructor and got my Exercise to Music (Aerobics) with Fitness Wales. I gained 18 months experience at this employment

I went on to work for Copthorne Hotel, Cardiff in 1991. There I fully qualified as a Fitness Instructor, gaining Coaching level with Welsh Weight Training Association. I taught Aerobics there aswell as Health & Fitness. I had to gain 2 years of experience training individuals in a gym environment before qualifying for my Instructor's Level. I gained 12 months experience at Copthorne

In 1992 I went to work for the Vale of Glamorgan Council in Penarth Leisure Centre. For the first 5 years I was a Lifeguard/Fitness Instructor. I taught Aerobics, 50+, Boxercise, Circuit Training, Personal Training, Swimming (also on a personal level). Here I qualified in ISRM level (Institute of Sport & Recreational Management) for Pool Plant Operators certificate (how to maintain a swimming pool), ISRM Fitness Leaders certificate (gym/circuit training), Sport Nutrition (Royal Society of Nutrition), Fitech Fitness Testing, Advanced Cardio Vascular Training (Technogym) and Smoking Cessation (Llansdowne Hospital)

For the last 2 years of working for Penarth Leisure Centre I worked in the Lifestyle 2000 Fitness Suite. This involved fitness testing, programs, personal training, planning and running a GP Referral Scheme in conjunction with Llandough Hospital, planning and running a Respiratory and Cardio Rehabilitation Scheme, also through Llandough Hospital and Doctor's Surgeries around the Vale

Penarth was my longest employment of 7.5 years. I gained most of my experience and qualifications here

In September 1999 I came to work for University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC). In June 2000 I planned and implemented a 10 week fat loss and body tone course called 'Trim 'n' Tone'. This took off exceptionally well, changing people's lifestyles. Some of whom still train on a regular basis with myself. I now offer this course as one of Shapewell's packages over 12 weeks

At UWIC I helped run our 2 Fitness Centres (Cyncoed and Llandaff, Cardiff). I planned nutritional guidance and fitness programs for individuals. I performed fitness testing and sport specific training schedules. I also worked very close with Rookwood Hospital as UWIC is a disabled facility. I gained a further 3 years experience at UWIC

Since working for UWIC I have further qualifications such as Staff Recruitment & Selection, HND in Sport & Leisure Management, GP Referral Certificate and SPS Diploma in Sport Massage Therapy

In September 2002 I cut down my work at UWIC and ran Shapewell on a part time basis. Since January 2003 I have been running Shapewell Health & Fitness full time

2010 - I shall be qualified in: BSA (British Surfing Association) Surf Instructor + SLSA (Surf Life Saving Association) Beach Lifeguard
